California JuCo State Champion Arlene Salvador to Golf for CSUB

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2022-23 CSU Bakersfield women's golf roster continues to shape up nicely for first-year Head Coach Tiffanie Yabut. After signing Iris Han, the most accomplished high school golfer in the area, Yabut further bolstered next year's lineup this week when Arlene Salvador, the 2021 California Community College State Champion, inked a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Roadrunners.

"I am extremely excited about the addition of Arlene to our program," said Yabut, who is putting together her first recruiting class. "Beyond her impressive talent, she will bring a great dynamic to our team with her enthusiasm, work ethic, and passion for the game."

Yabut continued on to talk about why Salvador fits in well in Bakersfield: "Arlene has a proven track record of success with her strong golf and academic resume, but above all her character will be integral for our team's future success. We are honored and proud to have Arlene be a `Runner!"

A 2020 graduate of Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif., Salvador is in her second season at Antelope Valley College. In November, she dominated Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif. on the way to a 36-hole score of 159 (68-71, -5) and the State crown. Salvador's five-under-par performance was the best by an individual champion in 25 years.

AVC had never won a team conference championship until this season as Salvador guided the Marauders to the league title. For her efforts, she was earned Conference Player of the Year and All-State honors.

In Fall of 2021, Salvador posted an average score of 72. Along the way, she broke the AVC single-round record by shooting a 67 at the Chuck Melendez Invitational on Aug. 30. She posted scores in the 60s three times in her two seasons at AVC.

During her prep years at Highland High School, Salvador was a four-time Golden League Champion and she was a CIF semifinalist multiple times. Salvador also had success in the Junior Golf scene as she won the America Junior Golf Association's 2019 Explore Lompoc Preview at La Purisima by shooting a one-under-par 71.
