BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Spectators in the Icardo Center saw first glimpse of a CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team that could go deep into their reserves. The Roadrunners did what needed to be done collectively, earning the exhibition win over Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills, 88-55, Friday night.
Redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston and sophomore Lexus Green matched each other in scoring, tallying a game-high 18 points. Senior Andie Easley joined Eggleston and Green in double figures. She had 11 points, seven rebounds, and a game-best six assists.
Junior forward Miracle Saxon and freshman guard Sage Bridges-Bey had 9 points apiece off the bench and combined for seven off the glass. Bakersfield's bench scored a total 27 points in the exhibition.
Freshman Tatyanna Clayburne and senior Vanessa Austin started at point guard and center, respectively and each finished the contest with seven points and five rebounds.
CSUB kept CSDH off the free throw line and held the Toros to seven first quarter points. Green and Eggleston had a third of their point total at the end of the period as the Roadrunners led 17-7.
Green started off hot from three, sinking her first four attempts behind the arch. She was 4-of-6 from 3-point range at halftime and had a game-high 12 points while Bakersfield led the Toros by 30.
Dominguez Hills battled hard to stay in the game third quarter shooting their best percentage (40%) of any period, but the `Runners responded with their best shooting 78.6% in the third. The Roadrunners would take a 70-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
Bakersfield had built its largest lead (42) with 5:46 left in the final period. The Toros hit some shots down the stretch to outscore CSUB in the quarter, but ended up taking the unofficial loss, 55-88.
CSUB women's basketball officially tips off the 2021-22 season on Tuesday, Nov. 9, hosting Bethesda University at 7 p.m.
