BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - November took a sharp downturn for CSU Bakersfield women's basketball dropping its fourth straight game Tuesday afternoon. The Roadrunners (1-4) let another halftime lead slip in the four-game homestand opener against Pepperdine falling, 42-52.
Jayden Eggleston led all scorers in the contest with 21 points going perfect from the free throw line and beyond the arch. Andie Easley had a game-high five steals, grabbed nine rebounds, and scored seven points in the loss. Vanessa Austin grabbed a game-high 12 boards and chipped in six points towards the point total.
Bakersfield's defense held the Waves to seven points in the first and second quarters of the game but cooled down instead of up on the offensive end. The `Runners still managed to build on their five-point lead from the first and saw a 20-14 edge into the locker room.
Eggleston had 12 points tallied at halftime while Austin and Easley had each grabbed six rebounds.
The Roadrunners reset their season low in the third period as Pepperdine built a nine-point lead on 8-of-13 shooting (61.5%), outscoring the `Runners (20-5) and on top, 34-25.
The Waves led by as much as 17 points in the fourth period but the Roadrunners would not back down without a fight. Bakersfield managed to hold Pepperdine under 55 points, outrebounded the Waves, and cut the deficit to ten for the final score, 52-42.
CSUB will play in the Icardo Center again on Sunday against UNLV. The start of the game with the Rebels is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ for fans who can't attend in person. Masks are required for all indoor and outdoor CSU Bakersfield Athletics events.
