CORVALLIS, Ore. - CSU Bakersfield women's basketball managed No. 15 Oregon State in waves on Saturday afternoon at Gil Coliseum, but low shooting percentages kept the Roadrunners out of reach most of the game losing, 51–82.
Vanessa Austin led CSUB in scoring with a season-high 14 points behind an instrumental six-point first quarter effort. Andie Easley did a bit of everything finishing with 12 points, three rebounds, a pair of assists, and one steal. Jayden Eggleston's 10 points rounded out the double-digit scorers for CSUB. Eggleston also grabbed a team-best five rebounds in the contest.
The Roadrunners led against the Beavers twice in the first period going up 6-3 on a second chance layup from Eggleston and 8-5 on a made basket from Easley. OSU tied the game at eight and never looked back outscoring the `Runners and closing the period up, 19-14.
Hennie van Schaik's layup to open the second quarter brought CSUB within three but a team low 7 points in the period allowed Oregon State to extend its lead at halftime, 38-21. Despite playing just 7 minutes, Austin led CSUB in scoring heading into the locker room. Easley and van Schaik were right behind Austin in points with five apiece.
Quarter number three saw the scoring margin widen double figures despite the Roadrunners being outscored just 22-16 in the period. Eggleston was perfect on both of her attempts and from the free throw line in the third. She and Easley each had five points in the quarter to lead the charge but trailed, 37-60.
Austin tallied another six-point quarter in the fourth making three of her five shot attempts in the period. Easley scored the last basket of the afternoon on a runner banked in. The Beaver would hold for the last three seconds for the final result, 82-51. Bakersfield finished the contest shooting 15.2% from three-point range and 38.9% overall.
CSUB (1-2) will head to another West Coast Conference school in Santa Clara next Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off with the Broncos.
