STOCKTON, Calif. - There just wasn't enough time for CSU Bakersfield women's basketball to overcome a second quarter slump and earn the come from behind win on Wednesday night at University of the Pacific falling, 65-78. The Roadrunners now sit 1-1 on the season.
Andie Easley led CSUB in scoring with 15 points adding six rebounds and a pair of steals on the evening. Jayden Eggleston joined Easley in double figures with 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Vanessa Austin led the team in rebounds (8) and rounded out the Roadrunners double digit scorers (10).
Despite a run from the Tigers early in the first quarter, Bakersfield was down four at the end of the period. Down 9-16 with 40.8 seconds left in the period, Easley sunk a deep three as the shot clock expired to bring the `Runners within four, 12-16. The Roadrunners closed out the quarter with a defensive rebound.
The second quarter saw CSUB score a season low 7 points and allowed 26 going into the locker room down, 19-42. Easley and Tatyanna Clayburne each had five points and a pair of rebounds to lead the team. The Roadrunners were shooting a dim 25.0 percent in the second period, while the Tigers shot 50.0 percent in the period.
Quarter number three saw new energy from the Roadrunners, who opened scoring and outscored their opponent 18-15, but the scoring gap remained in double figures down as much as 27 points (25-52) with 6:06 left in the period.
CSUB continued to fight, clawing back to within nine with 3:10 to go in the game. The Roadrunners outscored the Tigers again, but were unable to muster a final push to complete the come from behind win.
Next up, CSUB women's basketball heads further North taking on No. 15 Oregon State this upcoming Saturday in Corvallis. Tipoff is set for Noon PT, with the game being available online through Pac-12 Plus.
