Bakersfield Closes 4-0 Homestand with Another Sweep

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Pressed to the brink a few times, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team pushed through and ousted visiting Cal State Fullerton as the Roadrunners picked up their third-straight Big West Conference sweep (25-10, 25-21, 27-25). CSUB has now won 12-consecutive sets and four-straight matches as the `Runners rolled on the Kern Schools Court against the Titans Saturday evening.

Bakersfield asserted its dominance early, cruising to a 25-10 victory in the opening set. Fullerton pushed back to make the final two games tighter, but the `Runners would not be denied on their quest. With the victory, CSUB improved to 14-6 on the season and 7-5 in Big West play, good enough for fourth in the league standings.

On the night, Bakersfield received another well-balanced offensive output with junior setter Seleisa Elisaia running the floor. Elisaia's crisp sets led to CSUB hitting .304 on the night while the `Runners held Fullerton (9-10, 6-6 BWC) to just an .089 clip. One of the most dangeours setters in the league, Elisaia tallied 41 assists in just three sets, an outstanding average of 13.7 assists per set.

Junior outside hitter Hayley McCluskey led all student-athletes on Saturday with 12 kills on .400 hitting. During the efficient performance, McCluskey reached the 500-career kills milestone. Redshirt sophomore Hana Makonova added 11 kills on .579 hitting while also chipping in six blocks against the Titans. Milica Vukobrat, an outside from Novi Sad, Serbia, tallied 11 kills and  Bakersfield's Libero, Paige Calvin, averaged 5.7 digs per set with 17 total digs on the evening.

Bakersfield posted a perfect 4-0 record in its homestand and will use the momentum to roll back out on the road next week. The `Runners are set for trips to Big-West leading UC Santa Barbara (14-9, 10-1 BWC) and CSUN (4-17, 3-8 BWC) before returning to the Icardo Center for four more matches.
