`Runners Overcome 2-0 Deficit to Defeat UCI

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Trailing two sets to none on its home court, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team rallied for a thrilling, five-set victory in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners (11-7, 4-5 BWC) outlasted UC Irvine (12-7, 5-4 BWC) on the Kern Schools Court with the fifth and final set coming down to a two-point margin (16-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 16-14).

Brooke Boiseau, a middle blocker who led the `Runners with a season-high 17 kills on Friday evening, credited her team's defensive shift for catalyzing Bakersfield's come-from-behind victory: "We definitely tried to make some adjustments. Their hitters were super hot, I will give that to them all day. We just had to make a lot of blocking and defensive adjustments. I think everyone on our team fixed something and I think that's how we ended up on top."

A redshirt junior and former All-Conference honoree, Boiseau led the `Runners with 17 kills on .607 hitting while adding three aces and four blocks. Junior setter Seleisa Elisaia recorded her team-high 13th double-double of the season with 46 assists and 14 digs. Milica Vukobrat, an outside hitter from Novi Sad, Serbia, registered a double-double of her own with 12 kills and 15 digs while chipping in five aces and five blocks against the Anteaters.

Bakersfield also enjoyed 14 kills on .545 hitting from another middle blocker, Hana Makonova. The native of Sokolov, Czech Republic also added five blocks as the `Runners outblocked UCI 12.0 to 7.0 as a team.

The Anteaters got huge performances out of Joy Umeh and Onye Ofoegbu, who tallied 22 kills and 20 kills, respectively. But, CSUB enjoyed a well-balanced offensive approach and has six different `Runners tally at least two blocks in the victory.

With the win, the `Runners will ride momentum into another home match on Saturday night. Bakersfield will welcome UC San Diego to the Icardo Center with first serve set for 7 p.m. (PT).
