Green Lifts `Runners Past Hawaii

Bakersfield, Calif. - Sophomore Lexus Green finished 5-for-7 from behind the arc and led all scorers with 19 points, as CSU Bakersfield never trailed in knocking off visiting Hawaii, 64-57, at the Icardo Center, Friday afternoon, for the program's first ever Big West Conference victory. Vanessa Austin added ten points, and Miracle Saxon and Jasmine Dixon each chipped in eight, as the Roadrunners improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

"It's a real good feeling to get our first home win and our first Big West win," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "We played with a lot of excitement in the first half, knowing we were home and playing a conference opponent, and I think that showed with a great effort and a great result. We didn't have the same pop in the second half and I would have liked to have seen a more consistent effort over 40 minutes, but I was glad to see the team finish off the win."

Green scored nine of her game-high 19 points in the quarter, knocking down her first three looks from behind the arc, as the `Runners raced out to a 20-11 lead after one. Green added six rebounds, including five in the first period, and finished the game shooting 7-for-10 from the field with a pair of assists and zero turnovers.

CSUB stretched its lead to 17 points heading into the half with a 35-18 advantage, after limiting the Rainbow Wahine to just seven second quarter points.

Hawaii clawed back into the game in the second half, cutting the `Runner lead to as few as three points in the fourth quarter.

Jadynn Alexander led UH with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Deajah Phillips finished 5-of-6 from the field for 11 points and a team-high five rebounds.

The `Runners shot 48.1% from the field and 45.0% from behind the arc and out-rebounded the Rainbow Wahine 31-27, including 11 boards on the offensive glass.

Jayden Eggleston led Bakersfield on the glass grabbing seven rebounds to go with six points, four assists, two blocks and three steals in a stat-stuffing performance. Austin and Green each had six boards.

Dixon led CSUB with four steals, as the `Runners turned Hawaii over 17 times and scored 26 points off turnovers on the night.

Andie Easley and Sophie Tougas each chipped in five points for CSUB.

The `Runners will host Hawaii again tomorrow night, with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m. Pacific.
