`Runners Earn Double-Digit Win Over Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A triad of double figure scorers paced CSU Bakersfield behind sophomore guard Lexus Green Sunday afternoon. Bakersfield hit a season-high ten three-pointers and thirteen free throws in the contest at Fresno State to secure an 81-69 win – the first program win in Save Mart Center.

Green led all `Runners in scoring with 14 points and all players in assists with a game-high six while redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston and junior Miracle Saxon each had 13. Eggleston also grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double at CSUB. Graduate senior guard Andie Easley rounded out Bakersfield's double-digit scorers with 12 points in the contest, including 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arch.

Freshman guard Sophie Tougas came in and scored a career-high nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from behind the three-point line. She added a rebound, assist and steal on the afternoon. FS had four players in double figures in Haley Cavinder (17), Hannah Cavinder (14), Wytalla Motta (13) and Brooke Walling (10).

First Quarter

CSUB got out to a quick four-point lead to start the first period with back-to-back baskets from Saxon. Fresno State got on the scoreboard and the game was tied three times before a Bakersfield scoring run (7-2) to end the quarter gave the Roadrunners a 15-10 advantage.

Second Quarter

Bakersfield has a lead as large as eight points in the second period, but Fresno State would not go away quietly. The Bulldogs retook the lead 25-20 with 4:10 in the quarter. Tougas' third trey of the game brought the contest within one, 28-27. CSUB reclaimed the lead, 31-30, with thirty-three seconds but a FS layup at the buzzer gave the home team a one-point edge at halftime.

Third Quarter

The lead would go back four times in the first five minutes of the quarter. Fresno State led by four points at the third period media timeout. CSUB came out of the timeout and tied the contest at 44 points each, took the lead, and held on for a 48-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

There were three lead changes and one tied score in the final period, but it would be all CSUB to close the matchup. After retaking the lead at 8:37, Bakersfield would never trail again. The `Runners were up 70-61 with 3:16 in the game. It was a game of make your free throws for the remainder of the contest. CSUB went 11/13 in the last 1:34 of the non-conference matchup for the final result, 81-69.
