`Runners Head to Riverside for UCR Classic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After two weeks off to prepare for its next competition, the CSU Bakersfield softball team is anxious and excited to hit the diamond again. This weekend, the Roadrunners will play five games over three days at the UCR Classic in Riverside, Calif., Mar. 6-8.

Bakersfield is slated to open the tournament with a pair of neutral-site games on Friday, Mar. 6. CSUB will tackle Southern Utah in the tourney opener before facing off against Michigan State. On Saturday, the `Runners will battle host UC Riverside in a doubleheader before getting a rematch with Southern Utah on Sunday to close out the weekend.

Southern Utah (2-12) is coming off a challenging Sun Devil Classic during which the Thunderbirds went 1-4, picking up a win over Wisconsin. Michigan State (5-12) has enjoyed the mild weather of Riverside, Calif. since Feb. 28, playing in UCR's Amy S. Harrison Tournament last weekend and a doubleheader against California Baptist on Mar. 5 before starting the UCR Classic. UC Riverside (8-12) went 2-3 at their own tournament last weekend and is in the middle of a stretch of 19-straight home games.

The `Runners last competed at the Libby Matson Tournament, Feb. 15-16, in Stockton, Calif. CSUB closed out Pacific's tournament by picking up its first win of the season, an 8-3 decision over Nevada. Bakersfield will attempt to keep that momentum and increased offense rolling into Riverside this weekend.
