Wrestling to Celebrate Senior Night Versus CBU



Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team wraps up the regular season Friday, when they host California Baptist in a non-conference dual set for 7 p.m. The Roadrunners are in search of their seventh win of the season and their first winning record since 2015-16. CSUB enters the meet with a record of 6-6, while the Lancers are just 3-9 in dual competition this year.
 
Friday is also Senior Night for Bakersfield wrestling, as `Runner seniors Josh Annis, Dominic Balmer, Noah Blakely-Beanes, Wyatt Gerl, Carlos Herrera, Russell Rohlfing and Jacob Thalin will each be individually recognized prior to the dual with CBU.
 
The 2020 senior class has combined for 280 wins at CSUB, including 85 dual meet victories and 31 pins.
 
Rohlfing is the most heralded of the group, winning 83 individual bouts in his career to rank 31st on CSUB's all-time victories list heading into the weekend. He is currently riding a ten-bout winning streak, to up his 2019-20 mark to 20-7 overall and 10-2 in the dual meet format.
 
Rohlfing, who is in search of his fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, will square off with AJ Raya, who leads the Lancers with a 19-5 overall record, at 149. Raya defeated Rohlfing in a 4-2 decision at this season's Roadrunner Open on Nov. 24.
 
Gerl and Thalin have also been regulars in the CSUB line-up this season, with each contributing five dual meet victories at 147 and 165, respectively. Thalin won his 50th career bout in the dual meet with Duke on Jan. 19, while Gerl boasts six pins in his career, five coming this season.
 
Gerl is likely to match-up with CBU's Zach Rowe, who has lost seven straight bouts leading up to this weekend, falling to 5-13 overall, while Thalin is projected to wrestle against Cole Pruitt, who is just 1-12 on the season and 0-7 in dual meet competition.
 
Annis is set to continue his run through the 197-weight class. After wrestling much of his career at 157 and 174, he has taken on some of the best in the country while filling in for the injured Dominic Ducharme. He's scheduled to face CBU's Arick Lopez Friday. Lopez is o-2 versus CSUB wrestlers this season, including a pin at the hands of Ducharme in the Roadrunner Open.
 
Blakely-Beanes could weigh in at 141 this weekend, alongside Angelo Martinoni. Blakely-Beanes has 46 career wins at CSUB, including a personal best 16 this season. He has placed individual at three tournaments this year, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Menlo Open.
 
Herrera was a staple of Roadrunner starting line-ups for much of his career, but suffered a season ending injury in his first bout of the 2019-20 campaign. He still managed to pin Cerritos' Wyland Nicholson in that bout for the 45th victory of his career.
 
A Roseville, Calif., native, Balmer is 7-4 this season and 26-20 in his career at 285.
 
Heavyweight Jarrod Snyder has won six of his last eight in the dual format, raising his overall record to 17-9 with an 8-4 mark in duals. The redshirt junior has easily set career highs in wins for both categories this season.
 
Martinoni and Josh Loomer have both rounded back into form in recent weeks.
 
Loomer had a three-match winning streak at 184, which included two major decision wins, snapped Sunday against Arizona State.
 
Martinoni finished won a pair at 141 last weekend when he majored Cal Poly's Jake Ryan 15-5 and pinned Arizona State's Navonte Demison in just 0:16 seconds.
 
Following the conclusion of the 2019-20 regular season, the `Runners will have two weeks off to get set for the Pac-12 Championships on Mar. 7 in Palo Alto, Calif. Bakersfield finished the regular season with a 2-2 mark in conference duals to place third in league action.
