Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CSUB Tallies First Loss of Season

MALIBU, Calif. – Rebounds and second chance points would be advantageous in CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball matchup Tuesday night as the Roadrunners battled the undefeated Pepperdine Waves. Bakersfield went quiet in the second half, as the host Waves capitalized on mistakes to earn a 69-58 win.

For the second straight contest, CSUB was led by sophomore Lexus Green who finished tied with a game- and career high 15 points. Redshirt junior Jayden Eggleston led all `Runners at half time and finished with thirteen points off the bench. Pepperdine's Malia Bambrick, who came into the game averaging 20 points a contest, led the Waves with 15 points against CSUB.

All four newcomers -- Sage Bridges, Soli Herrera, Aaliyah Seuell and Sophie Tougas – all saw action Tuesday night in Malibu with Bridges chipping in a career high seven points, one rebound and one assist.

First Quarter

Both teams came up empty in their first few offensive possessions. Bambrick put the Waves on the scoreboard first with a fast break layup. Bridges' first career points brought the game within two but Pepperdine would have the last say so with a four point, 22-18, lead going into the second quarter.

Second Quarter

A 9-0 run into the second period by host Pepperdine helped the Waves extend their lead, 29-18, and forced an early CSUB timeout. Bakersfield would respond but not come within seven points again. Pepperdine shot 59% as a team from the field in the first half.

Third Quarter

The third period ground to a halt with both teams locking each other down on the defensive ends. Although CSUB struggled to break its scoring drought, the `Runner stayed in the game.

Fourth Quarter

Pepperdine recorded its biggest lead (sixteen points) of the night in the fourth period. Bakersfield held the Waves without a basket for a three-minute and two-minute span in the fourth quarter but only chipped in four points of their own each lull. Bakersfield's comeback attempt ran out of time as Pepperdine earned the eleven-point victory.

Next Game

The Roadrunners (1-1) will return to Bakersfield and prepare for their home opener on Friday. CSUB is scheduled to host Santa Clara University at the Icardo Center with tipoff scheduled for 6 pm. Due to COVID-19 health regulations, CSUB is unable to welcome fans into the Icardo Center at this time, but all of Bakersfield's home games this season, once again, will be streamed live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
