Women's Basketball Opens Season With Pac-12 Win Over Cal



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – What a season opener for CSU Bakersfield women's basketball. The Roadrunners went on the road to face the University of California this afternoon and controlled the pace of the game for four quarters to come away with a 60-52 win over the Golden Bears. 
 
Lexus Green led all scorers with fifteen points and distributed the ball well adding a game-high five assists in the contest. Vanessa Austin was near perfect from below the block and finished with ten points. Andie Easley chipped in nine points while Miracle Saxon had the most rebounds on the floor at twelve. As a team, the `Runners shot 46.6% from the field and were perfect at the charity stripe.
 
Bakersfield opened the first quarter with their foot on the gas and never let it off. The Roadrunners built on their lead each quarter, up three at the end of the first and seven at halftime. 
 
The Roadrunners reached their largest lead of the game in the third period when the women ran the score up by as much as eighteen points before the Golden Bears would go on their own scoring run to close the margin 56-43 at the end of quarter.
 
Cal outscored the Roadrunners in the fourth, but the damage had been done and the defense prowess of the `Runners held the home team to nine and controlled possession of the ball for the last minute of the contest to seal the final 60-52 win.
 
It is the fourth time the women's team has defeated a Pac-12 program, second under Head Coach Greg McCall in his tenth year at the helm.
