Barnes Inks Dalph Panopio to NLI

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2021-22 recruiting class continues to fill out for Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team, as Dalph Panopio has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Roadrunners next season.

"We are excited to add Dalph to our `Runner family," said Barnes, Bakersfield's tenth-year Head Coach. "Dalph is a very solid guard that is fundamentally sound. He has played against international competition for several years. He has a ton of experience playing against and with high-level players.

Panopio was born and raised in Rome, Italy, but comes from Filipino descent and the guard has gained valuable experience competing in the Philippine National Team youth system. During the 2018 FIBA U-18 Asian Championship, Panopio contributed 7.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. The following year, he represented the country again at the U-19 World Cup, helping his squad place 14th.

Barnes commented on how Dalph and his fellow `Runners are shaping the future of CSUB's basketball program: "Right now, Dalph is playing at South Plains College for Hall of Fame Coach Steve Green. Dalph will come here as a freshman with four years to play. With Dalph, Brian Washington, and Jahvy Medearis, we feel we have a solid foundation for years to come. The pieces are coming together for long-term success."

In his first year at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, Panopio will benefit from the tutelage of three-time NJCAA National Men's Basketball Coach of the Year Steven Green. In 20 seasons at the helm of SPC, Green has led the Texans to a career record of 512-137 (.789) while earning three national titles along the way.

A standout prep player, Panopio competed for Stellazzura Basketball Academy. The guard concluded his time with Stellazzura by leaving a lasting impression at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. During that four-game tourney, Panopio averaged 17.8 points, 5.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals a contest against some of Europe's top high school players.
