Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bakersfield Downs Lancers, 66-61 on the Road

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On the back of a monstrous twenty-two-point game from junior center Vanessa Austin, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team defeated California Baptist on Wednesday night. A contest that saw three tied scores and eight lead changes would go in favor of CSUB as the Roadrunners handed the Lancers their third conference loss.

With the win, Bakersfield remains unbeaten in league and with no games slated for this weekend the `Runners could be the only WAC team without a loss next week.

It was a physical matchup, but CBU had no answer for Austin in the lower block nor the Roadrunners' bench that accounted for forty-four of Bakersfield's sixty-six points.

CSUB led 9-7 at the first media timeout of the first period but trailed 14-15 at the end of the quarter.

Andie Easley tied the game 17-17 early in the second before CBU split free throws to go back up one. Bakersfield then went on a 5-0 run heading into the second period media timeout. An eight-point lead at half was the `Runners largest lead of the half.

CBU brought the game back to one possession in the third but was unable to retake the lead. Instead, the Roadrunners were able to build another eight-point lead just before time in third quarter expired.

The Lancers had brought the game back within one possession again in the fourth with twenty-nine seconds and an official's review on the floor to determine who touched the ball last. Officials ruled CBU had the last touch and the Roadrunners retained possession in their front court.

From there it was a game of get fouled and make free throws for the `Runners who capitalized down the stretch for the final 61-66 victory on the road.

Ashley Austin and Jayden Eggleston joined Austin in double figures with fourteen and twelve, respectively. Miracle Saxon had a near double-double with eight points and a game-high ten rebounds. Vanessa Austin added nine rebounds to her career-best twenty-two-point finish.
