BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Behind a trio of double figure scorers, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team remains undefeated at home after a ten-point win over Kansas City on Thursday night. A contest that saw five tied scores and nine lead changes would make for an exciting ninth-straight win at home for the Roadrunners as they handed the Roos their second league loss.
With the win, Bakersfield improves to 3-0 in conference and with Chicago State slated for Saturday afternoon, the `Runners could be the only WAC team without a loss by the end of the weekend.
It was another physical matchup, but CSUB controlled the most of the game with a lead as big as seventeen points in the fourth period while Kansas City's largest lead of three points came in the first period.
The contest was tied 20 apiece at the end of the first quarter and a one-point edge in the second quarter put Bakersfield up 33-32 going into the locker room at half time.
Despite an even fourth period in scoring, a monstrous twenty-three-point quarter in the third gave the `Runners enough momentum going into the final period to hold onto a double-digit victory.
Jayden Eggleston led the game in blocks with four and CSUB in scoring with eighteen while Vanessa Austin and Lexus Green added sixteen and ten points, respectively. Eggleston and Kate Tokuhara matched for a team-high eight rebounds on the night. Tokuhara also had a game-best four assists and added a steal and block to her stat sheet.
CSUB continues to show the depth of its bench as the `Runners tallied forty-one-points from bench play.
Bakersfield returns to the floor on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff with the Chicago State Cougars.
