Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Roadrunners Remain Undefeated on the Road

FRESNO, Calif. – It seemed as if the match at Fresno State would go as it had in the past. The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team found themselves down a goal in an environment they hadn't overcome before.

That didn't stop them though. Instead, for the first time in program history the Roadrunners came back and defeated the Bulldogs on their own pitch and remain undefeated on the road in 2019.
"Winning on the road is great," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio, "but we have to be better at home! Road games are a bonus, we have to make Bakersfield a place where teams don't want to come."

Bakersfield equalized the score in the 57th minute when freshman Darian Tatum beat a Bulldog defender and went one on one against the goalie for her first tally in her career and her third career point.

Ten minutes later senior Sophie Freeman was awarded a free kick after being taken down outside the box. She tallied her ninth career goal and gave the Roadrunners much needed insurance in the 68th minute that would prove to be the game-winner.

"I feel like this team has the potential to accomplish a lot of 'firsts' this year," added Vecchio. "But we have to continue to grow individually and as a team."
