Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bakersfield Lets Second-Straight Slip

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team took the lead once against Eastern Washington on Friday night, but the Eagles rallied to equalize and found insurance in the last eighteen minutes of the second period to steal a win from the Roadrunners.

For just the second time this season Bakersfield did not score first. However, it was the first match that CSUB was able to equalize and take the lead after going down one goal forcing the Eagles to tally two goals late in the second half to squeak past the Roadrunners with a 3-2 road win.

You know I'm a little bit disappointed," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "I felt we could not play our brand of soccer in the first half. We weren't clean enough on the ball and they were pressuring everything. We had to change. We had to give up our style and just come out in the second half fighting, be more direct in trying to win 50-50 balls in the attacking third."

I thought we fought really well today," added Vecchio, "but we did not play good soccer today."

A cross sent from right field initiated by Jordan Martinez found freshman Dome Rodriguez who sent a touch pass to Eszter Toth who netted her third goal on the season from inside the box to equalize the score with six minutes left in the first period.

Martinez became the fourth Roadrunner to score this year when Darian Tatum found her on a breakaway up center field and she sent a perfect curving ball into the top left corner of the net in the 55th minute. It was quiet on the pitch for the next ten minutes and seemed as if Bakersfield would come out with the win until back-to-back goals within five minutes of each other put the pressure back on the home team who was unable to equalize in the last eighteen minutes and force an overtime.
