Roadrunners Go Unbeaten in Week 4 With 2-0 Shutout

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team was due for a dominant showing at Main Soccer Field and did not disappoint on Sunday as the Roadrunners rolled through Incarnate Word with a 2-0 shutout win to improve 4-3-1 on the season. "It was a good weekend altogether," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We are coming together as a group and finding our groove going forward."

Bakersfield didn't get going offensively until just before the 53rd minute mark in the second half, but assists from Dana Neff and Aryana Harvey set freshman Chelsee Duran up to lift the Roadrunners over the Red Cardinal. Duran now has three goals on the year and is tied for leading scorer on the team.

Sophie Freeman has developed into a free kick specialist as the senior connected on her second free kick this season in the 59th minute of the match to give the Roadrunners an insurance goal and seal the game.

Cass Tymchen picked up her first career win and career shutout in her first content in goal this year, but credit must be given to a tenacious backline that limited UIW's shot attempts to three and zero on goal.

Bakersfield had ten corner attempts compared to the Red Cardinal's one. CSUB took a season-high nineteen shot attempts with thirteen on goal and forced UIW's goalkeeper to make eleven saves. Not a bad way for the Roadrunners to open the all-time series with the Red Cardinal.
