Bakersfield Resets Unbeaten Streak With 2-1 Win

CEDAR CITY, UTAH – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team closed their 2019 nonconference road tilt on a high note this afternoon in Cedar City, Utah. The Roadrunners handed Southern Utah their seventh-straight loss, reset a Division I unbeaten streak, and remain unbeaten on the when not at home.
"I am glad we were able to come out with the win," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "It wasn't our best soccer today in a tough environment."

Bakersfield scored in the fourth minute of the contest. Jordan Martinez picked up her first assist this season when she found Sophie Freeman in the box. She tallied her third goal on the season and now she leads the team in points with seven. CSUB held the 1-0 lead up until just before the 43rd minute when SUU equalized the game.

It was freshman Giselle Michel who would end up with the game-winner, but early. Chelsee Duran and Michel connected at the 45:16 minute mark for her first goal on the year. The freshmen connection helped lift the Roadrunners 2-1 over the Thunderbirds. Michel became the seventh player to score for CSUB this season.

"We have to be better moving forward," explained Sebastian Vecchio. "Sunday will be a great test against a team that tries to play, is fresh and is on a roll!"

Bakersfield opens a four-match home stint on Sunday when the Roadrunners welcome the Hornets to Main Soccer Field for a 1 p.m. start time.
