Rebels Steal 2-1 Victory at Main Soccer Field

BAKERRSFIELD, Calif. – Despite a 2-1 defeat to close the weekend at Bakersfield, the CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team put forth a strong performance on Sunday afternoon at the Main Soccer Field.

"I thought it was a tale of two halfs," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "I thought the first half we were very good. We were the better team for sure. That's the best soccer we've played so far this season. Second half I think it changed though. They got the ball and changed the momentum in the second half though, I think we defended a lot. But what I liked about our team is that we never quit – we never stopped fighting."

The Roadrunners (2-2) outplayed the Rebels for large stretches of the 90 minutes, however, two defensive lapses late in the second half that helped swing the score line in favor of the visitors.

Bakersfield started the match with aggression and were able to generate a 1-0 lead and held it through the 75th minute when UNLV equalized the score. Just as it seemed like the Roadrunners would be headed to overtime the Rebels scored in the 89th minute.

Down a goal in the last minute of the contest, the Roadrunners kept the pressure up, had an opportunity to equalize but were unlucky and the Rebels were able to keep it a 2-1 UNLV advantage.

"I'm proud of this team," added Vecchio. "They showed that we're not the team that's going to allow anyone to roll over us."
