Barnes Promotes Conarroe to Associate Head Coach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – As he prepares for his ninth season with the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team, Jeff Conarroe has been promoted to Associate Head Coach by Head Coach Rod Barnes.

A dedicated member of Barnes coaching staff for the past 15 seasons including stints at two previous universities, Conarroe came to Bakersfield with Barnes in 2011. In the past eight years with the Roadrunners, the coaching staff has brought Bakersfield to new heights with CSUB making a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2016, the NIT semifinals in 2017, and the postseason in three of the last four seasons.

Off the court, Conarroe has also been integral in the academic transformation of the CSUB men's basketball program, which has graduated 31 players in eight years. During that period, the program also achieved a perfect APR score of 1000 and raised the team cumulative GPA over 2.7.

"Our basketball program would not be where it is today without the help of Coach Conarroe," Barnes said. "Not only has he been vital to the accomplishments of our team on the court, he has also played a huge part in guiding our student-athletes toward academic success. Coach Conarroe has been a great friend and loyal assistant to me for many years and our program's future is bright with him sitting on our bench."

During his tenure at CSUB, Conarroe has helped Coach Barnes rebuild the `Runner program, establishing new standards of success with four postseason appearances. The Barnes era has included ten All-Western Athletic Conference, six Academic All-WAC, and seven WAC All-Defensive selections.

"I am extremely grateful to Coach Barnes for this opportunity," Conarroe said. "It is a privilege to help build this program and I feel very fortunate to be part of a great staff. Coach Barnes has created a culture where the development of our scholar-athletes as people and students is a priority."

Conarroe also described what being a part of the Bakersfield program has meant to him and his family: "Coach Barnes is an exceptional mentor. He and Bridgett have made Mary, Caleb, Cooper and me a part of their family. We are so thankful to CSUB and the city of Bakersfield for accepting us as your own. We could not be more excited to continue to represent you; we BELIEVE the best is yet to come."

Previously working with Barnes at Georgia State, Conarroe served as the Panthers' Director of Operations from 2007-11. He was also an Administrative Aide and Graduate Assistant at Ole Miss from 2003-06.

His coaching experience also includes one season as an assistant at his alma mater, Colorado College, where Conarroe was a recipient of the team's Tiger Award for inspirational leadership. Conarroe graduated cum laude from Colorado College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He earned his master's degree in business administration from Ole Miss in 2004 and has served as an intern with the United States Olympic Committee.

Conarroe and his wife, Mary, reside in Bakersfield. The couple has two sons – Caleb (9) and Cooper (7) – who can often be found running around CSUB's blue court in the Icardo Center.
