Men Add Impact Thrower for 2020 Outdoor Season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men's outdoor track and field inked its first future Roadrunner for the 2020 season. Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, has announced the signing of Tom Richardson to a National Letter of Intent.

Richardson, a Kern High School District thrower, will graduate from Shafter High School this spring and be eligible to compete for Bakersfield in the discus and shot put next outdoor season. His personal-best in shot put reached 59'8" while his best throw in discus was at 172'6".

He has enjoyed a decorated prep career as the senior holds three South Sequoia League titles in shot put and two SSL titles in discus. He has also tallied two California Interscholastic Federation Division II section titles in shot put.

In his first three seasons with the Generals, Richardson recorded the program's second-farthest throw all-time in shot put and fourth-best mark in discus. He also holds top ten marks in shot put at the CIF level after throwing sixth and tenth all-time marks as a freshman and sophomore.

Richardson's highest finish at CIF was when he placed runner-up in both events as a junior. He ranks third and fourth in the southern section in shot put and discus, respectively, while maintaining the ninth- and thirteenth-best throws at the state level.
