Softball Prepares For Senior Day Against NM State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The final weekend of the regular season has arrived for CSU Bakersfield's softball team. The Roadrunners have returned home to celebrate their five seniors on Senior Day and play host to the New Mexico State Aggies, May 3-4, in a three-game series.

NM State will come to Bakersfield with a 28-20 record overall, but sits in an unfamiliar place in the Western Athletic Conference standings. Despite being in third place with a 9-6 league record, the Aggies continue to pack a powerful punch with a WAC-leading home run total (58).

The Aggies have a three-headed monster at the plate in Victoria Castro, Mya Felder, and Kelsey Horton. Castro and Felder both combine power with average while Horton is the WAC's new career home run leader.

On the defensive side, NMSU has a go-to pitcher in Samaria Diaz, who has earned 24 starts in the Aggies' 48 games. The right-handed junior has a 2.21 ERA on the year with a 13-8 record and 14 complete games as Diaz presents a tough challenge for the `Runner offense.

CSUB is preparing for the final three home games in the careers of five `Runners: Maxine Langenberg, Paige Johnson, Nadia Amezcua, Chris Hipa, and Nicole Curry. The group helped CSUB grow to new heights as a program, including Bakersfield's first-ever WAC Softball Tournament victory and NCAA Regionals berth in 2016.

This weekend's WAC series kicks off on Friday, May 3, at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. The `Runners and Aggies will play a single game at 2 p.m. to open the series before closing it out on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Senior Day Ceremony will take place shortly before first pitch of Game 1 on Saturday.
