Barnes Adds Schoemann & Stith to `Runner Roster

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner men's basketball team continues to fill out as Head Coach Rod Barnes signed another pair of talented student-athletes to the 2019-20 squad last week. Jack Schoemann (Colorado State) and Shawn Stith (Saddleback College) are both transferring to CSU Bakersfield, bringing size and depth to the `Runner roster.

"I want to welcome Jack and Shawn to our program," Barnes said of the two newest `Runners. "We have added two special student-athletes to our `Runner family. Both of these young men will be assets on the court, on campus, and in the community."

Barnes went on to describe what each player brings to the CSUB program, starting with Schoemann: "Jack is a versatile forward who can play both inside and outside. He has a great IQ and is very knowledgeable of the game. We are going to use Jack more as a perimeter forward."

Schoemann spent his freshman season with the Colorado State Rams in 2018-19. The native of Prairie Village, Kan. saw action in just eight games, but Schoemann brings an impressive prep career resume to Bakersfield. The 6-foot-7 forward was a standout performer at Shawnee Mission East High School where he was a two-time All-Sunflower League selection, earning honorable mention All-State honors in 2018.

Stith will come to Bakersfield after two outstanding seasons at the junior college level. The 6-foot-8 forward checks in at 255 pounds and joins Bakersfield's already-impressive core of big men that will prove to be a dominant presence in the paint.

"We are excited about adding Shawn," Barnes said. "He fills a need for us in that he can score with his back to the basket. He is a very skilled forward that has great vision. Shawn is solid on both ends of the court. He is a very smart player who knows how to win."

While with Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif., Stith earned All-Orange Empire Conference honors after an impressive freshman season in which he averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game. As a sophomore, Stith dominated to the tune of 16 points and seven boards a contest while leading the Gauchos to an OEC title. For his efforts, Stith was named OEC co-Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-State Team.

"We are ecstatic about the recruiting class," Barnes said after adding four student-athletes in the past couple weeks. "We still have one scholarship remaining. If we can find the right fit, then we will sign someone, but if we don't, we feel good about next year's roster."

The `Runners are coming off their third postseason appearance in the last four season as CSUB traversed a tough road schedule all the way to the CIT quarterfinals this March. With the Bakersfield squad shaping up nicely, the `Runners are looking to make it four appearances in the last five years with the ultimate goal of returning to the NCAA Tournament. Be on the lookout towards the end of this summer for the 2019-20 CSUB men's basketball schedule release.
