Softball Drops Series to Conference Leader

PHOENIX, Ariz. – CSU Bakersfield's softball team was unable to steal a road game against Western Athletic Conference leader Grand Canyon on Saturday evening. The Lopes took the final matchup of the three-game series 9-1.

It was another tough go for the `Runners in Game 3. The Lopes scores in three of the six innings they came to the plate despite getting eight hits for the second consecutive contest. GCU gave an impressive defensive effort, holding the visitors to just one hit through six innings.

Julie Lewis (1-4) took the loss after she allowed five walks and six runs in an inning and a half pitched. Avery relived her for the final four frames and allowed three additional runs. Offensively, Katie Jackson was the only Roadrunners to tally a hit and run as the second baseman had finished with a team-best 50.0 percent batting average.

Bakersfield returns home next weekend for a three-game series with Kansas City at Roadrunner Softball Complex. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
