Lightning Suspends CSUB and UVU in the 7th

Box Score Update, 11:15 a.m., Apr. 27

In the resumption of Friday afternoon's contest, Cydney Curran reached on a single, but the Roadrunners were unable to rally and fell by a final score of 3-0.

OREM, Utah – The CSU Bakersfield softball team kicked off its Western Athletic Conference road series against Utah Valley on Friday afternoon, but the two teams were unable to finish the contest before a lightning storm rolled in. The Roadrunners trail the Wolverines 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning and they will meet back up on Saturday at 1 p.m. (MT) to finish off the suspended game before completing the series with the regularly-scheduled doubleheader at 2 p.m.

Lyndsay Steverson put the Wolverines on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Linnah Robolledo followed that up with a triple off the wall to push UVU's lead out to two runs.

Bakersfield created a quality opportunity to answer in the top of the second with the bases loaded and two outs, but UVU was able to escape the threat. CSUB went on to put at least one `Runner in scoring position in each of the first five innings, but starting pitcher Devyn Cretz got the Wolverines out of trouble frame after frame to stay ahead 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, an error allowed Utah Valley to score an unearned run and the home team enjoyed a 3-0 advantage heading into the top of the seventh when play was suspended for the day.

While the game is not yet complete, sophomore Daryn Hitzel has pitched well for the `Runners thus far, allowing just two earned runs through six complete innings. The left hander has scattered five hits to help her team keep within striking distance.

At the plate, junior Karah Wiseman has led CSUB with a 2-for-3 performance. Bakersfield's catcher also made a nice defensive play in the fourth, pulling off a back pick at first base to end the frame. Senior Nicole Curry and freshmen Samantha Pech and Katie Jackson each have one hit so far, rounding out CSUB's five hits.

This press release will be updated with final stats after Game 1 of the three-game series is complete on Saturday.
