CSUB to Take On Utah Valley in WAC Road Series

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – One last Western Athletic Conference series on the road stands between CSU Bakersfield's softball team and its Senior Weekend. Before the Roadrunners can return home to celebrate their five graduating seniors, CSUB will head to Orem, Utah this weekend to face Utah Valley, Apr. 26-27.

CSUB will travel from one valley to another to face UVU (12-27, 4-11 WAC), a team that has struggled as of late. The Wolverines defeated NM State in the first game of a doubleheader on Apr. 6, but have since lost their last nine games.

UVU sends a solid lineup to the plate, but the Wolverines struggle in the circle with a team ERA of 6.30. Junior Devyn Cretz is the squad's go-to option, dominating UVU's starts and innings pitched on the year. The native of Corona, Calif. has a small-world tie to Bakersfield as Cretz and CSUB pitcher Daryn Hitzel were teammates at Santiago High School. The Wolverine offense features a trio of student-athletes who are batting over .300 on the season in Abby Doughty, Brianna Moeller, and Lyndsay Steverson.

CSUB trails UVU 11-22 in the all-time series, which began in 2008, Bakersfield's first season as an NCAA Division I program. One year ago, the Wolverines swept the regular-season series in Bakersfield before eliminating the `Runners from the WAC Tournament. Utah Valley has won five-straight games against CSUB dating back to the 2017 season.

This weekend's WAC series will kick off on Friday, Apr. 26, with a single game at 2 p.m. (MT). On Saturday, the `Runners and Wolverines will close out the weekend with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (MT).
