CSUB Downed by LMU on Tuesday

LOS ANGELES – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team held a slim 2-1 advantage after 3.5 innings at Page Stadium on Tuesday night, but Loyola Marymount rallied late to claim an 8-3 non-conference win.

Trailing 1-0, CSUB got on the board in the fourth when Damian Henderson ripped a triple past a diving Lion first baseman, and the ball rolled all the way into the right field corner.  The three-base hit drove in Tyler Jorgensen and Will Picketts.  Picketts walked to start the inning and Jorgensen singled right behind him.  Henderson also singled in the eighth for his second multi-hit game of the season.

LMU tied the game in the fifth and took control of the game with three runs in both the seventh and the eighth innings.

Noah Barba drove in CSUB's other tally in the top of the eighth.  With one out, Henderson singled and Jassen Oliver grounded into a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning.  Oliver was able to move up 90 feet on a wild pitch and Barba went the other way for a single to knock him in.

Roadrunner starter Noah Cordova had another solid outing in his second straight midweek start.  The junior right-hander pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run.  The Lions opened the scoring with an unearned run off of Cordova in the first inning.  The Arizona native struck out four and scattered five hits.

Isaiah Moten (1-3) took the loss after allowing three runs in the seventh inning.  Kyle King performed well in relief.  He allowed just one hit and struck out a pair in his inning of work.

Barba and Jorgensen also two hits to lead the offense.

CSUB (15-15, 3-3 WAC) will travel to in-state, conference rival Sacramento State on Friday for the first game of a three-game series.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
