Softball Set to Tackle Second-Place Seattle U

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The first of back-to-back weekends on the road has arrived for the CSU Bakersfield softball team. The Roadrunners are headed to Seattle, Wash. for a three-game Western Athletic Conference series against Seattle U, Apr. 19-20.

Seattle U (28-14, 7-2 WAC) currently sits just one game behind WAC leader Grand Canyon and will welcome Bakersfield to the Pacific Northwest on a four-game win streak. The Redhawks own a 10-4 record at their own Logan Field this season and have already claimed league series wins from Kansas City, NM State, and Utah Valley.

The Redhawks look to the bat of Ally Choate to lead the way, but have no shortage of offensive weapons. Choate's .412 batting average on the year is equally as impressive as the power numbers of Madison Cathcart, who boasts a .307 average and a .646 slugging percentage thanks to eight doubles, 11 home runs, and 44 RBI.

In the circle, SU puts great trust into its top two options: Carley Nance and Andie Larkins. The pair of veterans have a combined ERA of 2.05 to go with a 23-10 record. Sophomore Shianne Smith also sees a fair share of time in the circle, so, the `Runner offense will have a three-headed monster to deal with in Seattle.

This weekend's WAC series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 19, at Logan Field. The `Runners and Redhawks will start the action at 4 p.m. on Friday before closing out the series witha  single game on Saturday at 2 p.m.

A live stream will be available for all three games this weekend via the WAC Digital Network. Links to those broadcasts as well as live stats are available on the CSUB softball schedule page and live updates will be shared all weekend @CSUB_Softball on Twitter (link above).
