Baseball Falls to CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team was defeated by California Baptist 6-0 on Saturday night in Riverside.

Evan Berkey and Damian Henderson both had two hits to pace the Roadrunner offense, but CSUB was unable to capitalize.  Jassen Oliver and Alexander Gonzales also had singles for the visitors.  The `Runners had a man on in six of the nine innings including two on with one out in the sixth.

Edgar Barclay (4-2) was solid on the mound in his eighth start of the season.  After a tough start in which he allowed two runs in the first and two more in the third, the junior lefty tossed three straight scoreless innings.  He scattered seven hits over the start and struck out nine batters.  Noah Cordova relieved him in the seventh and after tossing a scoreless seventh inning, he allowed two runs in the eighth before Kyle King got the final out.

Travis Booth (3-2) earned the victory for the Lancers after he pitched the first six innings, but Chris Burica retired all nine batters he faced over the final three innings.  Tomorrow's starting pitcher Andrew Bash was CBU's best hitter on the night as he hit a two-run homer in the first and finished the game with three knocked in and two runs scored.

CSUB (15-21, 3-8) will aim to win the series finale tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
