CSUB Returns Home to Continue WAC Play with UMKC

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A Western Athletic Conference series at home is a welcomed luxury for CSU Bakersfield's softball team after suffering a tough road trip to Phoenix, Ariz. last weekend. The Roadrunners will look to get back on track with a three-game series, Apr. 12-13, when Kansas City comes to Bakersfield.

In its last WAC series, Kansas City (23-17, 3-6 WAC) equaled CSUB's result against California Baptist, dropping the first game of the series before sweeping the Saturday doubleheader. The `Runners and Roos have met 19 times in their all-time series with UMKC enjoying a 13-6 advantage. Last season, the `Runners traveled to Kansas City for their WAC series where the Roos took two of three games.

UMKC boasts the WAC's most potent offense, scoring an average of 5.55 runs per game. The Roos' league-high 195 RBI have come off the power of their bats. Kansas City has recorded 62 doubles and 29 home runs this year while its 11 triples is second in the conference to CSUB's 12.

The Roos are not one dimensional as their pitching staff is solid is well. A pair of sturdy freshmen join junior DJ Cannon in the circle and the trio has combined for a 2.97 ERA on the year. Freshman Kailyn Packard has earned the majority of the team's starts with 14, but Mia Hoveland (11) and Cannon (11) earn their fair share of nods to give UMKC multiple options.

This weekend's WAC series kicks off on Friday, Apr. 12, at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. The `Runners and Roos will play a single game at 2 p.m. to open the series before closing it out on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Friday's game will be simulcast live on the WAC Digital Network as well as Facebook Live via the NCAA Softball page. On Saturday, the doubleheader will be available on the WAC Digital Network while live stats will be available for all three games. Links to each options of following the action are available on the CSUB softball schedule page and live updates will be shared all weekend @CSUB_Softball on Twitter (link above).
