Seniors Close Regular Season With 92-73 Win Over UVU



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In the final home game of the 2018-19 regular season, CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team earned a nineteen-point victory. For the five graduating seniors, it was their last time playing on the Kern Schools Court in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners sprinted away from Utah Valley to take a 92-73 win, making history in a pair of categories along the way.
 
Bakersfield played with a blistering pace in the first half and scored a total of 56 points, third-most in any half in the school's Division I era. The home team had three players in double figures at halftime. Alexxus Gilbert led all scorers with 16 first-half points, Ashley Austin had 14, and Malayasia McHenry rounded out the trio with 10 points.
 
Gilbert continued to convert shots at will for Bakersfield. She finished with a game-high 24 points and for the third and second time this season made a career-high nine shots and dished out a career-best eight assists. Gilbert improved to eighth all-time on the program scoring list with 1,053 career-points and sits three points behind former teammate Batabe Zempare.
 
Bakersfield finished with a season-high 92 points and got solid performances out of Austin, who had 19 points in just twenty-two minutes of action. McHenry finished with 12 points and Vanessa Austin rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points while not missing a single shot all afternoon (5-5 FG). 
 
JJ Johnson had a balanced game with eight points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Nandi Jorden almost finished with a double-double as the senior dropped seven points and grabbed a contest-high 12 rebounds.


 
UP NEXT
CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team (13-16, 9-7) will head to the Western Athletic Conference tournament next week as a number three seed and face Grand Canyon on Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. tip-off.
