`Runners Fall in Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team couldn't keep the momentum going from their four-game series victory over Santa Clara on Tuesday night as UNLV defeated the Roadrunners 6-1 in Sin City.

CSUB (5-9) got its second straight solid start out of senior Isaiah Moten (0-2).  Moten allowed just one run in five innings pitched in last Tuesday's start against Cal Poly and he gave up three runs in five innings of work against UNLV (7-6) tonight.

The Rebels took control of the game in the sixth, scoring three runs off of reliever Kyle King.  King allowed two hits and a walk and retired just one batter.  Andrew Ciandro tossed the final 2.2 innings for CSUB and did not allow a run.

The Roadrunners had their chances early, but couldn't convert.  CSUB had a baserunner on third base in four of the first five innings.  Jake Ortega finally got the visitors on the board in the top of the ninth with a groundout to second base to score Ryan Koch.  Koch reached and went all the way to third on a dropped fly ball by the Rebel center field.

Noah Barba led off the game with a single and Jake Ortega had a single and a double in his first two at-bats, but the `Runners were held hitless in the final five innings.

CSUB will return home on Friday to begin a four-game series with Fairleigh Dickinson at 6:00 p.m.
