CSUB to Tackle Green Bay in CIT Quarterfinals

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner men's basketball team is preparing for its third CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) game in the last eight days. CSU Bakersfield is set for a trip to Wisconsin to take on the Green Bay Phoenix on Friday, Mar. 29, with a trip to the CIT Semifinals on the line.

"Green Bay is fast and athletic," said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the `Runners. "They are an offensive-minded team. We will have some size advantages at some different positions. Hopefully we can take advantage of that, but we have to make sure we guard them. I think we're deep enough. Our bench is strong enough if we have to play smaller."

After cruising into the CIT Quarterfinals with a big win over Florida International, Green Bay will welcome CSUB to the Great Lakes area with a 19-16 overall record. The Phoenix boast an impressive home record of 13-3 this year, but only five of those wins have come inside of the Kress Center where Friday night's game will be played. Just as CSUB used to play in downtown Bakersfield at Rabobank Arena, Green Bay played the majority of its home games this season at the off-campus Resch Center.

The Phoenix offense is paced by redshirt senior Sandy Cohen III, who transferred to Green Bay from Marquette three years ago. The 6-foot-6 guard is a one-man wrecking crew, averaging 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks per contest. JayQuan McCloud (13.8) and ShanQuan Hemphill (11.7) are Green Bay's second- and third-leading scorers, providing a powerful punch for the potent Phoenix lineup. GB averages 81.5 points per game, but allows its opponents to score 79.9 points per contest.

The `Runners (18-15) are coming off back-to-back road victories in the first two rounds of the CIT. After defeating Cal State Fullerton, 66-58, CSUB handed Southern Utah a 70-67 loss on Monday. CSUB boasts 18 wins on the season, third-most in Bakersfield's NCAA Division I era.

Friday night's game is set for a 6 p.m. (CT) tipoff in Green Bay. A live stream broadcast, a radio broadcast, and live stats will be available during the contest. For links to each of those options as well as the most up-to-date information on CSUB's journey through the CIT, visit the `Runners' Tournament Central page.
