`Runner Softball Headed to Fresno State Invite

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With a Western Athletic Conference series win already notched into its belt, the CSU Bakersfield softball team will look to continue momentum gained into its last regular-season tournament of the year. The Roadrunners will head to Fresno, Calif. this weekend to play six games over four days, Mar. 28-31, at the Fresno State Invitational.

CSUB will open the tournament with back-to-back games against San Diego. The `Runners and Toreros already met this year when USD hosted CSUB, Mar. 16-17, for a three-game set. The Toreros got the best of the `Runners in the first two games of the series, taking a pair of 3-2, walk-off victories, before CSUB won 4-3 in the longest game in the school's history to close out the weekend. Bakersfield and San Diego will clash again, this Thursday and Friday, with the `Runners looking to take the season series 3-2 from the Toreros.

On Saturday, the `Runners will take on Santa Clara and Pacific in a doubleheader. CSUB and Santa Clara have a rich history dating all the way back to 1989. The `Runners hold a 27-9 advantage all-time after defeating the Broncos 6-5 earlier this season at the Silicon Valley Classic. Pacific has a 14-3 lead on CSUB in the two teams' all-time series and the `Runners will be looking for their first win against the Tigers since 2015.

To close out the Fresno State Invitational on Sunday, Bakersfield will get one more game against Santa Clara before taking on host Fresno State. Despite being just 100 miles apart, the `Runners and Bulldogs have only played each other nine times, but have seven meetings since CSUB moved to NCAA Division I in 2008. Fresno State has won the last four matchups with CSUB's last win coming in 2013.
