Gilbert, Johnson Voted To All-WAC & All-Defensive Team

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2018-19 All-WAC selections have been announced, following a ballot vote from each of the league's nine head women's basketball coaches. CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team was represented by a pair of seniors as guards Alexxus Gilbert and JJ Johnson were named to the All-WAC and All-Defensive teams, respectively.

Gilbert averaged almost 17 points per game to pace CSUB offensively. She led the WAC in scoring in the first five weeks of conference and finished the regular season third-best in the league. She had a four-game stretch where she totaled 23, 20, 27, and 22 points, respectively, and recorded 10 contests with 20 or more points. For her efforts, the senior was voted first team by the head coaches.

For the second-straight season, Johnson tabbed an All-Defensive team award for efforts on the ball. Her relentless pressure has played a large role in positioning the women's basketball program as one of the top defensive teams in the country. She ranks first on the team in steals, third when looking at conference overall statistics, and among the top 50 athletes in the country.
