Bakersfield Wins Second-Straight With 85-71 Victory

Ashley Austin and Alexxus Gilbert combine for 52 points in the contest



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In front of an energetic crowd in support of #Play4Kay and National Girls and Women in Sports Day, CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team earned a fourteen-point victory on the Kern Schools Court in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners used a dominate second half to cruise to an 85-71 win over Kansas City, extending their win-streak to two games.
 
Bakersfield took the first quarter by two-points but the Kangaroos would fire back with their own two-point advantage in the second behind Ericka Mattingly's nine first half points. Freshman guard Ashley Austin had a team-best seven points in 15 minutes of action.
 
The Roadrunners showed why their one of the top defensive teams in the country with another impressive second half defending the ball. The squad created six steals and forced 12 turnovers while shooting 53.3% in the third and 66.7% in the fourth to build a double-digit lead.
 
Three players scored ten or more. Austin finished as CSUB's leading scorer for the third time this season with a career-high 30 points. Alexxus Gilbert tallied her ninth contest with twenty or more points as the senior added 22 points. Malayasia McHenry rounded out the `Runners double figure scorers with 11 on the day.

CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team (11-14, 7-5) will play their final road game of the regular season when the Roadrunners head to Riverside for an intrastate rematch with California Baptist (13-10, 6-4) on Sunday afternoon.
