`Runners Set to Host Montana State, Visit Cal Poly

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team is gearing up for a busy week with a home game scheduled before a quick road trip. The Roadrunners will host Montana State on Thursday, Dec. 19, in their last home contest of 2019 before traveling to San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Dec. 21 to take on future Big West Conference foe Cal Poly.

With only three games remaining until Western Athletic Conference play begins, CSUB Head Coach Rod Barnes is looking to these final tune-ups to prepare his squad: "We're a little bit farther behind than I would like, but there are some good things we have done and we have played some really good basketball at times. We feel like we have the makings of a really good team…I would consider us a dangerous team because I don't think we have played as well as we are capable of playing."

The `Runners (4-8) dropped a tough, overtime road game at Idaho last Saturday. A number of nagging injuries have played various `Runners this season, preventing the squad from developing a good rhythm. Barnes also commented that he is looking forward to a less busy schedule next week for the team to get back to full health. Junior guard Czar Perry has begun to assert himself on the court, posting several quality performances in recent games to lead the way for CSUB.

Montana State is currently 6-4 after suffering a road loss against North Dakota State on Monday. MSU beat South Dakota State last week, the same team CSUB dropped a double overtime thriller against. Senior guard Harald Frey leads the MSU offense with over 16 points per game while two other Bobcats average double-digit scoring.

Cal Poly's season got off to a tough start with the Mustangs losing seven of their first eight contests. The squad's non-conference scheduled has been challenging with losses against Creighton, Iowa, and No. 18 Saint Mary's. Cal Poly (2-8) fell against Fresno State on Saturday and still has to face Sacramento State on Wednesday before welcoming CSUB to the Central Coast.

Thursday's game in Bakersfield is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Santa Clause will be hanging out in the Icardo Center and fans are welcome to take pictures with him before and during the game. On Saturday, the `Runners will take on Cal Poly at 7 p.m. in San Luis Obispo. A fan bus has been chartered and there are still a few tickets remaining to support CSUB on the road. For more information and to grab one of the last tickets, view the fan bus press release.
