Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bakersfield Cruises Past Life Pacific

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In front of a sellout crowd filled with thousands of Kern County schoolchildren, the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team put on a show on Friday morning during its fifth-annual Education Day game. The Roadrunners surged ahead early and pulled away from Life Pacific for a 91-51 victory in the Icardo Center.

Redshirt junior De'Monte Buckingham posted season highs of 19 points and eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals against the Warriors. Fellow redshirt junior Taze Moore tallied 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting on the blue Kern Schools Court.

Center Ronne Readus recorded a season-high eight rebounds as well as six points in the victory. Junior guard Czar Perry chipped in eight points and a season-high six assists as CSUB cruised past its opponent.

In the first eight minutes, CSUB jumped out to a 20-10 lead and never looked back. Buckingham posted 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the first half, driving Bakersfield to a 54-29 lead at the break. CSUB shot 61% from the field in the opening period while holding Life Pacific to under 30% shooting.

The big first half advantage allowed the `Runners to test out plenty of rotations in the second period. All eleven `Runners played at least six minutes in the second half and all but one scored at least two points in the period. CSUB outscored its opponent 37-22 in the final 20 minutes on the way to a 40-point win.

CSUB improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory, but the `Runners are now headed for a pair of tough road challenges next week. On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Bakersfield will take on the San Francisco Dons, who are 3-0 on the year and posted 21-10 record last season. Next weekend, CSUB will travel to face No. 7/8 Gonzaga in the toughest test of the season the `Runners have faced so far.
