CSUB Advances to WAC Tournament Semis

COLORADO, Den. – CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team left it all on the pitch this afternoon in order to defeat the fifth-seeded San Jose State Spartans, 1-0, late in the match. For the first time since 2014, Bakersfield will advance to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. Niklas Korber, a redshirt senior from Berlin, netted his seventh goal of the season in the 84th minute of the match. It was senior Ryan Goldsmith and sophomore Justin Markus who set Korber up for the game-winner. Goldsmith, a second team All-WAC selection, now has 19 points on the year. The Roadrunners attacked first as CSUB tallied the first shot of the contest, but it would be SJSU with possession for most of the half. The Spartans had an 11-3 advantage in shots with four on frame.

CSUB tallied the first six shots in the second period of the match before the Spartans found room to get one off.

Bakersfield's first team selection, Detre Bell proved why he had been named to the list. He tallied four saves in the first and six in the second, including a diving save on a penalty kick. It was the second time he made 10 saves and his fifth clean sheet this season.
CSUB (8-10-0) advances to the tournament semifinals on Friday when the Roadrunners take on the first-seeded Seattle U at 2 p.m. Fans can visit the men's soccer schedule page for contest viewing or live stats links.
