CSUB at Utah Valley, Air Force this Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – This weekend will be a series of matches that could shake up the men's soccer conference standings, with CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team at the forefront of the ranking battle with an opportunity to give Utah Valley its first league loss and get one game ahead of Air Force who sits in a four-way tie for second with the Roadrunners.

Bakersfield's momentum from a two-game win streak couldn't have come at a more opportune time, although early in WAC play, a win on Thursday (Oc. 10) against the unbeaten Wolverines on their field then to knock off the Falcons in Colorado Saturday (Oct. 12) would put CSUB in a good standings position as the regular season nears the mid-way point.

It's been four seasons since the Roadrunners went to Orem, Utah and were shutout by the Wolverines. Bakersfield is one draw from tying the all-time series with UVU or one win from leading it.

Bakersfield and Air Force have been most successful against one another on their own fields. CSUB is 4-1-1 against the Falcons at the Main Soccer Field and Air Force is 5-0 on their pitch. Last season the Roadrunners handed then-ranked AF one of its two conference losses. This season the pair have identical overall and WAC records this week.

CSUB is led in scoring by Niklas Korber who has nine points (4g, 1a) on the season. Ryan Goldsmith and Carlos Armendariz are close behind Korber with three each. After missing the first four contests to play with his national team in Bermuda, Detre Bell now has five games underneath him and has started to show how instrumental he can be on the defensive end.
