BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A back and forth match culminated in a disappointing result for CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team on Thursday night. The Roadrunners battled hard against Western Athletic Conference foe Kansas City, but the visiting Roos took a 3-1 victory (29-27, 17-25, 23-25, 19-25) in the Icardo Center.

Down 21-22 in the first set, the `Runners rallied to tie the game at 23-23. The two teams found themselves locked up all the way to 27-27 when back-to-back errors by the Roos saw CSUB take the opening set, 29-27, in thrilling fashion.

After an intense first set, Kansas City jumped out to a quick, 7-1 lead in Set 2. CSUB responded well, drawing within two points at 12-10, but the Roos surged again and eventually won the second game, 25-17.

Set 3 featured another tight battle with nine tie scores including at 23-23. This time around, KC picked up a block and kill to win the set, 25-23, and take a 2-1 lead on the match.

The Roos sprinted out of the gate again in the fourth set. While the `Runners hung around, the early lead was enough to help Kansas City close out the match with a 25-19 win in the Icardo Center.

Sophomore Hayley McCluskey led all `Runners with 13 kills on the night. Redshirt sophomore Brooke Boiseau chipped in 10 kills while fellow middle blocker Hana Makonova tallied nine kills and five blocks on Thursday. Setter Sidney Wicks recorded 32 assists against the Roos.

CSUB (7-14, 2-7 WAC) has one more home match ahead before setting out for a road trip. On Saturday, Oct. 26, the `Runners will welcome Chicago State to the blue Kern Schools Court for a WAC matchup at 1 p.m.
