Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Unlucky Ball in Edinburg, CSUB falls 1-0

EDINBURG, Texas – Edinburg was a tough environment for CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team to play in on Sunday. From wet field conditions to wind blowing nonstop the Roadrunners had their hands before even stepping out on the pitch, but still managed to control the pace of the match and, despite a 1-0 loss at UTRGV, owned the stats sheet.

When asked to recap the afternoon, head coach Sebastian Vecchio responded, "Tough day for us today. We did everything right but score a goal. I don't remember losing a game when you hit the post five times."

There might not have been a goal scored in the first half, but it was far from a nostalgic forty-five minutes. Bakersfield had the Vaqueros on edge applying pressure to their backline the Roadrunners forced four corners and held them to one.

"Early in the second half we lost possession of the ball," added Vecchio, "but after making some adjustments we were very dangerous."

CSUB took advantage of their opportunities as best they could with four of their five strikes in the second half on goal. RGV was efficient when it counted but without a corner in the period the Vaqueros had to rely on getting good looks from Roadrunner fouls.

RGV broke through in the 57th minute of the match when Maya Chitman netted her first goal on the year. Bakersfield created a few more chances at the box but were unable to equalize end Chitman's shot would end up being the game-winner.

CSUB closes its conference home slate next weekend with Chicago State at 7 p.m. before the season finale at Grand Canyon (Nov. 2) the following week. Bakersfield's six seniors will be recognized for Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 26.
