Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

CSUB Drops 1-0 Road Decision

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – In the driver seat for majority of the contest, CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team let a scoreless match at NM State slip in the fifth minute of overtime as the Aggies picked up their first WAC win of the 2019 season and the Roadrunners tallied their third league loss.

"It was an ugly game where both teams played not to lose," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio, "but credit to NM State because they wanted it more than we did. They were the better team today."

It was a heartbreaker for those following along online. What looked like a worst-case-scenario double overtime draw through ninety minutes ended up being a 1-0 defeat before the first overtime 5-minute midpoint.

There weren't any shots recorded in overtime until a foul committed by CSUB in the fourth minute of the extended period gave NMSU its 17th free kick in the match and an opportunity to find a good shot on goal. They did just that.

It was at the 94:11 minute-mark that Annalise Pacheco played a cross to Corey Kizer who netted her fourth goal on the year and now leads the Aggies in scoring with eight points.

"Last Saturday we saw the best CSUB version of the year but today was the complete opposite," added Vecchio. "We were extremely poor in all aspects of the game."

After the loss, Bakersfield now checks in at 7-8-1, 2-3 WAC and must see a well-oiled RGV roster on Sunday (Oct. 20) morning at 11 a.m. PT.
