Women’s Soccer Tallies First Win In Thrilling Fashion



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team kicked off the first of four doubleheaders with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Southern Utah University on Friday to improve 1-3-0 on the season. 
 
Aminah Settles scored the game-winning goal in the 83:28 minute off a short through ball inside the box from Keneika Jensen. It was Settles' first goal of the season and Jensen's first assist on the year. The game may have been decided in the last six minutes of the match, but it was Bakersfield who controlled the attacking third majority of the contest. 



For the first time this season, the Roadrunners created more scoring opportunities than their opponent with 13 total set pieces off corners (5) and free kicks (8). 
 
CSUB outshot the SUU 15-8, while the defense held the Thunderbirds to an opponent-low three shots on goal. Bakersfield improves 3-2 in the all-time series against Southern Utah.  


 
NEXT UP
Bakersfield women's soccer will be on the road for its next two contests. The club will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for a 1 p.m. tilt this Sunday, Sept. 2 at UNLV then prepare for another 1 p.m. matchup at Northern Arizona Sunday, Sept. 9.
