Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

`Runners Suffer 6-0 Setback At UNLV

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team tallied its fourth loss of the season in a 6-0 decision at UNLV on Sunday.

"We're lucky the score line wasn't bigger," said first-year head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "Today we took not one, but two steps backwards. We let the weather conditions beat us before the game even started and unfortunately were not mentally strong enough to overcome it."

UNLV was aggressive on the backline and efficient in controlling the attacking third. The Roadrunners were unable to get a shot off through the first 45 minutes while the Rebels went 11-for-18 in shots on goal and took a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room at half.

The Rebels got some help from the cross bar on their first goal scored in the sixth minute of the match. Then extended their lead to 2-0 on a made penalty kick in the 24th minute. A scramble for the ball in front of the box in the 43rd minute resulted in the Rebels' third and final first half goal.

UNLV added three goals in the second half for the final 6-0 score.

Bakersfield goalkeeper Jordan Bertram faced 23 shots and recorded a career-high nine saves in the contest, while freshman keeper Lucy Gomez made three saves in her first collegiate appearance with the Roadrunners.

"We will rest tomorrow and get ready to play next Sunday in another tough environment," added Vecchio. "Hopefully we can use what happened today as a lesson and be ready to compete through similar situations during the WAC portion of our season."
