Aja Williams Inks Pro Contract To Play In Spain

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Roadrunner women's basketball alumna Aja Williams signed a professional contract this week with Club Deportivo Talent, a basketball team based in Santander, Cantabria, Spain.

"I'm really happy for Aja," said head coach Greg McCall. "First and foremost, she got her degree. That alone is a huge accomplishment. But her attitude also shifted. The way she approached the game shifted. She became more coachable, evolved as a teammate and as a result her individual abilities became more invaluable."

CD Talent has led the Liga EBA division the past two years. The squad is coming off a 29-5 win-loss season.

A native of Jackson, Miss., Williams transferred to CSU Bakersfield from Holmes Community College in 2016. The 5-10 forward averaged 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game through two seasons with the `Runners.

Williams, a liberal studies graduate, is the sixth player under head coach Greg McCall to sign an international deal to continue her playing career professionally. She joins an elite class of `Runners in the Pros.

"Again, I'm really happy for Aja and I know this means a lot to her," added McCall. "It's very rewarding for me to be in a position where I can help my players earn a livelihood after their time here at Bakersfield doing something they love to do. To me, it's the ultimate 'thank you' for the time and effort they've sacrificed building this program."
