Women’s Soccer Drops Home Opener, 3-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Loyola University Chicago on Sunday afternoon at the Main Soccer Field.

Bakersfield (0-3-0) outshot Loyola Chicago (2-2-0) in both periods, limiting the visiting squad to a game-low 8 total shots. Both teams had the same number of opportunities on frame, however, it was the Ramblers' execution of set pieces that would be the determining factor in the contest.

"We lost our marks on two set pieces and that was the difference in the game," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio.

Madison Kimball scored the first goal for Loyola Chicago with a tally at 6:27 in the first half, while Abby Swanson added the insurance goal at 19:08. Kat Stephens recorded the third goal for the Ramblers at the 70:00 mark in the second.

Eight different Roadrunners recorded a shot in the contest. Bakersfield native Sophie Freeman had team-high four shots, while Aryana Harvey had three and recorded the first goal of the season with four seconds to play in regulation for a final score of 3-1.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Bertram has logged all 274:00 minutes in goal this season through the first three matches and finished this contest with four saves.

It was the best game we played so far this season," added Vecchio. "But we have to stop beating ourselves."

Up next, the Roadrunners host Southern Utah at the Main Soccer Field on Friday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
