Rogic Wins Croatian National Title

ZAGREB, Croatia – CSU Bakersfield men's swimmer Kris Rogic is a Croatian National Champion. The sophomore from Zagreb, Croatia won the 200-meter individual medley at the Croatian National Championships on Thursday night, finishing the course in a personal-record 2:05.21.

"This is a cool win," said Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "Two years ago alumnus Lovre Soric won this same event at Croatian Nationals. It's nice to keep it in the `Runner family. I think Kris could end the meet with another possible win in the 200-meter backstroke."

Rogic's time also qualifies him for the US National Championships in Irvine, Calif. from July 25-29 and the US Open Swimming Championships from July 31-August 4 in East Meadow, N.Y.

Later in the session, Rogic led off the 400-meter medley relay with another US National Championship and US Open Swimming Championship cut, swimming the 100-meter backstroke in 56.31. His relay team finished third, but Rogic recorded the fastest backstroke time in the field.

The sophomore will compete in the 200-meter backstroke tomorrow, the 50-meter backstroke on Saturday and the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke on Sunday.

As a freshman, Rogic earned First Team All-Western Athletic Conference honors. He also set the CSUB school record in the 100-yard backstroke (48.13) and was part of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay team (1:28.88). Rogic also swam the third-fastest 200-yard backstroke in school history (1:47.27) and the fourth-fastest 200-yard individual medley (1:48.64).
